DeSoto County moves $1.07 million to capital projects for Trustmark building purchase and Ag‑Ed grant match

On April 20 the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors approved interfund transfers totaling $1,070,000 to fund the purchase of the former Trustmark building and provide the local match for a USDA Congressional Spending grant for the Agri-Education Meeting House.
Finance Director Aimee Claire Holder presented the Interfund Transfer Memo and recommended two transfers: $845,000 from the One Mill Mandatory fund (002) to the Capital Projects fund (380) to cover the Trustmark building purchase plus closing and legal costs, and $225,000 from the same mandate fund to 380 to provide the USDA grant match for the Agri-Education Meeting House. Both transfers were approved unanimously.
Holder also asked the board to authorize returning unused ERBR interest from the completed Getwell Road Bridge project. She recommended issuing a check to MDOT for interest of $14,175.07, recording any required budget amendments and closing the Getwell ERBR bank account; the board approved those steps and authorized the clerk to issue the check. Several departmental budget amendments were approved in the same session addressing sheriff department capital and operating lines, road management materials, and other routine adjustments.
The board approved the claims docket and multiple budget amendments as presented; the board also authorized staff to proceed with required procurement and inventory dispositions related to county operations.
