The Board of Supervisors approved several items tied to public safety, emergency response and county operations during its April 6 meeting.
EMA Director Chris Olson received Board approval to apply for the Mississippi Homeland Security Task Force Grant; Olson said prior awards were $150,000 historically but the County received $50,000 last year and he will seek $140,000 this cycle. The Board also authorized Supervisors Mark Gardner and Lee Caldwell to conduct the final inspection of the E‑911 tower on Green River Road following local testing of radio coverage.
Procurement approved low quotes for two law‑enforcement vehicles: a Sheriff's Office vehicle from Landers at $42,089 using equitable sharing funds, and a Fleet vehicle (Ram 2500 Crew Cab) from Kirk Auto Group at $44,561 to be assigned to the Animal Shelter. The Board approved both vehicle purchases and authorized payment for vehicle, tags and title.
The Board approved a contract with A‑1 Fire Protection for general facility fire protection services at $25,860 per year, and approved a Progressive Technologies managed services IT contract with hourly billable rates effective July 1, 2026.
Human Resources Director Mallory House reported MedBen will add a leave‑of‑absence grace period of up to three weeks prior to COBRA; the Board approved the change. The Board also authorized posting a staff attorney position requested by County Judge Allen Couch and approved a $75,000 budget amendment from ending cash to fund that posting.
Actions were recorded by roll call; the minutes show the Board requested follow‑up actions by departments to complete procurement and contract execution.
