Administrators said the change is primarily updating language to match the legislative requirement; they do not plan to implement a district-wide storage policy but will work with building administrators on student-handbook procedures, expectations and protocols for emergencies. The board discussed administrative guidelines, enforcement and the possibility of parents refusing to pick up confiscated devices; the superintendent said more detailed guidance will be published in student handbooks and communications in mid-to-late July.
A board member reiterated that this is a legislative mandate rather than a discretionary district policy, and the board voted 7-0 to approve the amendment.
