At its Nov. 10 meeting, the Marion County Planning & Zoning Commission recommended several permits and forwarded them to the Board of County Commissioners for final action.
Staff recommended approval with conditions for an indoor simunition (scenario‑based) training facility (case 251203SU). The applicant described a 40‑by‑40 enclosed metal building, indoor use only, up to two sessions per day with four to six people per session, and non‑lethal paint‑based simunition rounds used with personal protective equipment. Commissioners voted to recommend approval with conditions (indoor‑only use, minimum distances from residences and vegetation preservation). The BCC will hear the item Dec. 15.
The commission also recommended approval of two renewals (cases 251204SU and 251205SU) for Trailhead Asset Group LLC to operate community residential group homes for up to eight adult residents each in single‑family zones. Staff noted both homes have operated under earlier special‑use permits since 2016, will maintain the eight‑resident limit and are staffed 24/7. The board approved staff’s recommended conditions and will forward both items to the Dec. 15 BCC agenda.
A home‑occupation permit (case 251202SU) to permit a pet‑grooming operation at a residence in Wingspred Farms (up to 12 animals per day, owner must reside on site, two employees maximum) was recommended for approval with conditions after the applicant described longstanding operation and appointment‑based service.
On the consent agenda, staff read a special‑use notice for a proposed 185‑foot monopole telecommunications tower (case 251201SU). That item remained on the consent agenda and will be included in the packet to the Board of County Commissioners.
