Franklin County sets July public hearings on zoning ordinance changes, appoints DeGrote to Board of Adjustment

At its June 9 meeting the Franklin County Board of Supervisors voted to initiate formal amendment procedures for two zoning ordinances and scheduled public hearings.
Planning & Zoning Administrator Dan Tilkes presented letters recommending changes to Ordinance 70 and Ordinance 70.05 (formerly 6-1). The Board approved moving forward with both amendment processes and set a public hearing on July 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. for Ordinance 70 and at 9:15 a.m. for Ordinance 70.05. Supervisor McVicker made the motion; Supervisor Lukensmeyer seconded, and the motions passed on unanimous votes.
The Board also appointed Rick DeGrote to the Board of Adjustment for a term ending June 16, 2031. The appointment was moved by Supervisor Lukensmeyer, seconded by Supervisor McVicker, and approved with all ayes.
Related to zoning, the Board of Adjustment met separately on a conditional-use permit application to expand a proposed battery storage facility; that request was tabled and the Board of Adjustment will meet again June 29 to continue consideration.
The hearings scheduled for July will provide an opportunity for public comment and formal consideration of proposed ordinance language. The county will publish hearing notices and materials per state and county procedures prior to July 14.
