The board approved moving forward with roof repairs at Taylor Prairie School after an April 14 wind and hail event. Facilities staff reported a total loss estimate just under $675,000 covering replacement of asphalt shingles, a flat rubber roof over the cafeteria and associated gutters, flashing and fencing repairs.
Meeting materials and the presentation broke down insurer payments: the carrier’s actual cash value estimate was about $292,000; the district’s wind/hail deductible is roughly 1% of the building’s total replacement cost, which the presenters estimated at approximately $236,000. The district had received an initial payment of about $57,000; the insurer will pay the remainder of the replacement cost after work is performed. Facilities told the board that the roof was near the end of its expected life and the claim aligns with capital planning items that were slated for the near term.
Administration said there are remaining buildings & grounds funds that can provide a down payment this fiscal year and that the 2026–27 budget would be largely unaffected. Board members supported proceeding to keep district facilities in good condition.
Motion to approve the repairs passed by voice vote.
