Lyon County Planning Commission elects secretary, forwards street-name request and notes faster permit review times

Commission Chairwoman Shannon Ceresola acknowledged the resignation of Loretta Sell and commissioners nominated and elected Commissioner Audrey Allan to serve as Planning Commission Secretary, with the term expiring January 12, 2027. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mark Jones and carried unanimously.
On a public-hearing item, Senior Planner Lisa Nash presented a request from Michael Hargis (PLZ-2026-022) to reserve names for two future roads that would branch off Break-A-Heart Lane in Stagecoach (APN 015-471-03). Staff recommended approval subject to standard conditions: check for duplicate or confusing names that could create public-safety hazards, solicit review and comment from the Sheriff’s Office, Central Lyon Fire Protection District and the Road Department, and permit the Planning Director to administratively approve a replacement name if needed. Commissioner Andrew Merritt moved to forward a recommendation of approval to the Board of County Commissioners, Commissioner Mark Jones seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Community Development Director Gavin Henderson reported that building permit review times have improved to approximately 2–3 weeks for approvals (down from about 6–8 weeks previously). Henderson said an inspector has been trained to assist with plan examinations, a comment box has been installed at the Community Development office, and staff are preparing a set of ordinances. Commissioners asked staff to provide a quarterly report going forward and Commissioner Mark Jones raised a question about whether Lyon County provides compensation to property owners adjacent to data-center projects who may be unable to develop their parcels; the transcript records the question but no county policy or compensation program was stated at the meeting.
The commission also acknowledged the resignation of Commissioner Katie Baker and, because a quorum could not be established for the June 9 meeting, voted to reschedule that meeting to Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Commissioner Wendy Loomis also asked staff to schedule a presentation from Victory Logistics that had been requested at the April meeting.
What’s next: The forwarded street-name reservation will be considered by the Board of County Commissioners; staff will provide the requested quarterly report on planning activity and follow up on arranging the Victory Logistics presentation.
