Mayor announces retirements, contract renewal intent and community events; council to review annexation petition

The mayor briefed the Fayette City Council on personnel changes, a contract renewal notice and multiple upcoming community events.
Mayor (speaker 1) announced that Glenda from the Civic Center will retire effective Oct. 1 and that the council will begin recruitment to have a replacement in place before that date. He also said Anne Perry has retired from Beville and may take a part-time role, and that the Civic Center board would be consulted about operational needs.
The mayor said the city received a renewal letter of intent from Phat Medical Center Home Care, LLC indicating the company's expectations should the city renew a contract that expires Oct. 1; he noted a 60-day notice requirement if the council elects to change terms. "This is just a letter of intent at this point," the mayor said, adding that any facility improvements the provider requests would be considered during the budget process.
The mayor also reported receipt of a petition for annexation from the Wright family and said staff will verify titles and then refer the request to the planning commission before returning it to council for action.
On community programming the mayor flagged pothole repairs for Temple Avenue, 3rd Avenue NE, 1st Terrace NW and 13th Street NW, National Garden Week (June 7–13), the Candidate Forum at the Civic Center, the weekly farmers market outside City Hall, a Juneteenth closure of city offices (June 19), a Flag Park charrette on June 24 and an America 250 celebration on June 27 that will include veterans recognition. He also described a back-to-school giveaway planned for July 18 with the district attorney's office and Central Church and asked for volunteers and donations.
Council members acknowledged the announcements and were asked to forward budget requests by the following Friday so staff could form a budget committee and prioritize requests.
The mayor closed by asking for a motion to go into executive session to discuss a legal matter; the motion passed by voice vote.
