Fayette council approves May financials, hears sales-tax and collections updates

The Fayette City Council voted to approve May expenditures for the general fund, Park and Recreation accounts and the municipal court collection account at its regular meeting.

Mayor (speaker 1) opened fiscal reports by asking Miss Clapp to review the check registers. Miss Clapp, the city’s finance/treasury staff member, said the general-fund checks written in May totaled $650,354.69 and highlighted several items including a grant-reimbursed expense for Temple Avenue work and a $1,200 purchase for a fire-department washing machine. She also reported Park and Recreation checks of $56,502.54 across three accounts (general fund, concession and aquatic center) and municipal-collection checks totaling $14,067.

"The check register for the general fund, total checks written in May, $650,354.69," Miss Clapp said when introducing the register. She noted specific line items and one recurring concession supply charge that she said looked unusual and would be monitored.

In a separate presentation, Miss Clapp reported gross sales-tax collections of $438,264.80 for May, with $302,587.28 netted to the general fund. She said the net figure was down $16,513 from the prior month but remained higher than last year. The council noted the collections were generally on track.

Council members moved and seconded approval of each account’s check register; the approvals were recorded by voice as ayes. The municipal court report also reflected intercept funds from state tax returns that have begun to appear in the collection account.

The council did not ask for additional changes to the city’s month-end reports. Mayor noted routing those items into the budget process where longer-term adjustments or requests would be addressed.
