The Marion County Commission held a public hearing required by Florida statute and adopted resolutions authorizing use of the uniform collection method for potential non‑ad valorem assessments.
Chadwick, municipal services director, told the commission the hearing is the first step and does not itself establish or change assessments. The packet included 43 potential municipal service benefit units (MSBUs), 46 potential road‑improvement areas and countywide assessments such as fire‑rescue, residential solid‑waste and stormwater programs. "The purpose of this public hearing is to authorize use of the uniform collection method for non‑ad valorem assessments and adopt the associated resolutions," Chadwick said.
The board adopted the resolutions unanimously. Chadwick and Growth Services Director Chuck Veron also told the board that a second public hearing had been canceled after the petitioner ran required advertisements in a nonlocal paper; the petitioner requested a new date of Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026 at 10 a.m., which the board approved unanimously.
Next steps: any actual establishment or increases in assessments will require separate, itemized public hearings on each affected area and final adoption at a future meeting.
