Treasurer reports stronger-than-expected amended carryover; committee advances ordinance 2615

Treasurer Mr. Sansson told the Faulkner County Budget and Finance Committee that the annual amended carryover process has produced a larger-than-expected county general balance and that the committee will see actual (period 13) figures replace earlier estimates.
"We're right in track," Mr. Sansson said of sales-tax receipts, noting May’s sales tax was up 2.91% compared with May 2025 and the year-to-date figure was 3.56% above last year. He cautioned the committee that some revenue timing issues — for example, inmate revenue that posted in a different fiscal year — complicate year-to-year comparisons.
Mr. Sansson said he distributed supplemental sheets showing 2023–2024 revenue comparisons and that the county will begin reporting a capital improvement fund line in monthly statements. Committee members discussed the long-standing caution of relying on carryover for recurring expenses; several urged conservative budgeting despite the higher amended carryover.
After discussion the committee voted to forward proposed ordinance 2615 (amended carryover adjustments) to the full court. Members said the full packet contains detailed fund-by-fund numbers and that staff will provide follow-up questions as needed.
