Council issues proclamations for Pride Month, NAACP Day and Jubilee Day; local groups announce events

The City Council read and adopted three proclamations on June 8: declaring June 2026 Pride Month, naming June 13, 2026 Rock Island County NAACP Day, and recognizing June 3, 2026 as Jubilee Day for Pharaoh Temple 183.
Mayor Ashley Harris read each proclamation. Daniel Gleon, speaking as parks department staff and president of Quad City Pride Alliance, thanked the city for its partnership, noted that the Pride festival drew just under 4,000 attendees and described downtown flag displays and ongoing Pride programming. NAACP representatives thanked the council and promoted their Freedom Fund banquet on June 13; the NAACP noted tickets would not be sold at the door and provided meeting details.
The council also recognized community events such as the upcoming Artist Market and Rock Island Public Library summer programming during the meeting’s updates.
