Westonka board hears progress update as stadium footings begin and parking returns by Aug. 11

Contractors reported steady progress this month on Westonka Public School District's high-school construction, saying major earthwork, utility trenches and site grading are complete and that stadium footings will begin the next day.
A Cross Anderson construction representative told the board the team has finished track demolition and tree removal and is now focusing on site utilities and building electrical work. "We're going to start the footings for the stadium building tomorrow," the representative said, calling it a key milestone.
Board members were given a timeline for campus access as work continues. The contractor said portions of the main parking area will remain closed through late July and the large north lot is scheduled to be returned to district use around Aug. 11 so students have parking for mid-August fall-sports activity. District staff said they will provide direct communications to families and program users about which entrances and lots are available on particular days.
Work on practice fields 7-9 is awaiting a scheduled fiber-line relocation; contractors said crews will continue work on other fields while that utility move is completed and still expect to turnover those fields to the district by roughly the end of September, weather permitting.
Inside the high school, district and contractor staff reported progress on mechanical systems: the old boiler has been removed and new units are being installed, lower-level special-education classrooms and the nursing area have already been handed over for fit-out, and gym work is in progress. The representative said ceiling painting in the gym is about halfway done and that gym-floor and equipment installation will take additional weeks ahead of the fall season.
Contractors also described structural work such as demolition of a large stairwell by the cafeteria using robotic jackhammers and shoring of courtyard elements. The board emphasized safety and clear pedestrian routing during construction.
The construction fund was discussed later in the meeting as part of the budget preview; finance staff said recent bond sales have provided cash for these phases but that construction will continue to be managed in phases over the next year.
