The Hudson County Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to approve a resolution allowing the county to exceed the tax levy limits and to establish a cap bank under NJSA48 col4-45.15. The public hearing on that resolution yielded no in-person speakers, and commissioners moved to close the hearing before taking the vote.
Chairperson Romano was recorded as the motion mover when the resolution was first introduced; Commissioner Copaz was recorded as second. During the procedural votes later in the meeting, commissioners voiced affirmative votes in support of allowing the county to exceed the cap and separately approved a resolution authorizing the 2026 budget to be read by title.
Clerk’s office staff and commissioners emphasized that the approval was a procedural step to permit the county to seek levy flexibility; the final budget adoption will follow the introduction of a budget amendment, state Department of Community Affairs review and a subsequent public hearing.
