At a special session, the Colfax County Board approved the canvass of the 2026 primary election and ratified the readout of local vote totals, the board confirmed during a short meeting.
A staff member presenting the canvass told the board that turnout in Colfax County was 33.2%, compared with 24.6% statewide, and that county election staff conducted three hand tallies (including one in El Prado) and recorded 295 write‑in ballots. "I just want to thank all our poll workers. They did an amazing amazing job for us," the staff member said, and added that state police assisted by delivering results from Angel Fire and Eagle Nest.
The staff member read the canvass totals for multiple offices and local races as recorded in the county report, including sample tallies such as Ben R. Lujan (1,132) and Teresa Leger Fernandez (1,190) in the Democratic results and the Republican totals read later in the same report. When asked whether any provisional ballots were included, the staff member replied, "No, no provisional."
Following the presentation, a commissioner moved to approve "the 2026 primary local election numbers canvassing report." The motion was seconded and approved by roll call: Commissioner Kern voted yes, Commissioner Trujillo voted yes, and Chairman Tatum voted yes. The board then moved and voted to adjourn the special session.
The vote formally ratified the county's canvass of the primary election results as presented; no amendments or challenges to the tallies were recorded in the session.
