The Monroe Town Council unanimously approved several administrative items during its June 8 meeting, including two board appointments, acceptance of a small grant, and a renewal of a volunteer medical adviser agreement.
Council Member Mau moved to appoint Pauline Donovan to the Commission for the Aging (term ending July 2, 2029). After a brief biographical summary the council approved the appointment unanimously.
Council Member Mau also moved to appoint Donut Plopkin to the Inland Wetlands Commission (term ending Feb. 4, 2028); the council reviewed his background and approved that appointment by unanimous vote.
The council authorized the first selectman to execute an AARP Community Challenge microgrant agreement and accepted a $2,500 award to support Monroe EMS fall-prevention marketing and the purchase of safety equipment for at-risk residents. Council materials and a town attorney opinion were included in the meeting packet; council members confirmed EMS will deliver the services and that the grant funds will bolster existing programs.
Finally, the council approved the fifth amendment to the memorandum of understanding retaining Michael O'Reilly, MD, as a volunteer medical adviser to the Monroe Health Department; members thanked Dr. O'Reilly for his service. All motions recorded in these items passed unanimously.
The items were recorded in the meeting packet and staff were directed to complete routine follow-up for contracting, grant implementation, and appointment paperwork.
