Bartlett High renovation 84.5% complete; district plans summer hardscape work and surplus furniture disposition

District staff updated the Webster School Committee on Bartlett High School’s renovation progress and related logistics on June 9.
The business manager reported Phase 3 is approximately 84.5% complete, with a target to finish at the end of November and move-in during the December break; Phase 4 is scheduled to wrap up in June 2027. Key upcoming summer work includes advancing hardscape tasks — curbing, sidewalks, asphalt milling and repaving — timed to avoid disruption during the school year.
Staff briefed the committee on punch-list items remaining from earlier phases: Phase 1 has four open items valued at about $19,000 and Phase 2 has roughly 140 open items valued at about $330,000. Project work under way includes structural steel installation, roof replacement and interior framing; staff said they are coordinating furniture arrivals with sequencing of work to minimize disruption.
On district property management, staff said they will declare surplus furniture and attempt to rehome items first (state business manager lists, local outreach), consider school silent auctions, and otherwise follow disposal procedures. “I anticipate we'll be bringing the surplus items to be declared at school committee at the next meeting,” the business manager said.
Committee members asked whether pre-K would move midyear; staff replied the pre-K relocation is likely to occur the following school year because playground work is scheduled in Phase 4 and moving midyear would be disruptive.
What happens next: staff will present a surplus list for declaration and a disposition plan at a future meeting, continue coordination of summer hardscape and furniture logistics, and monitor outstanding punch-list items toward Phase 4.
