Student urges inclusion as North Penn raises Pride flag

Christine Coin, who identified herself as the school board director for North Penn School District, opened the event and introduced Mrs. Florence Wagat, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Pendale who was noted as the school’s recent Teacher of the Year. Coin then introduced Savannah as the student speaker and turned the program over to her.
"The pride flag serves as a visible symbol that they are seen and respected just as they are," Savannah said, describing the flag’s meaning as something that can make students feel included whether they see it on their ride to school or in a display case at school.
Savannah praised the district for holding meetings, raising flags and other efforts to support students, while also acknowledging that "it's never perfect." She said trainings for teachers and the availability of counselors can help improve conditions for individual students: "every time a teacher gets training to help or counselor to talk to a student ... it can get a little better for someone."
The remarks focused on inclusion and the district’s stated mission to educate, inspire and empower students. Savannah closed by thanking attendees for coming to support the flag-raising and the district’s Pride Month observance.
No formal board action or vote was announced during the remarks; the program consisted of introductions and brief speeches.
