Blue Valley board adopts KASB naming and personnel policy updates

Dr. Chapman presented Policy FC and explained the adopted version narrows verbiage and reserves ultimate naming authority to the board. "If a group proposes naming a field or facility, I would bring it to the board," Dr. Chapman said. "The board could decide to convene a committee or handle the process directly; the policy leaves the decision to the board."
Board discussion touched on past practice and a preference among some members to generally avoid naming facilities after people. After debate, the board approved Policy FC to take effect July 1, 2026 "pending minor edits deemed necessary by legal counsel." Votes to adopt the policies were unanimous on the floor (voice votes indicated as in favor and recorded as passing).
On Policy GBO, Dr. Chapman said the revision removes a specific 'breach of contract' clause and refers such issues to the negotiated agreement process. The board likewise approved the KASB policy indexes to align district language with legislative changes and make policy maintenance easier for staff.
What happens next: the policies take effect July 1, 2026, with minor legal edits to be incorporated before the effective date.
