Acting Superintendent Dr. Harris Mohammed presented the spending plan and thanked the board of supervisors for local support, saying, “I am excited to share with you the public has followed that the board of supervisors has allotted funding for our staff to receive a 5% salary increase.” The budget was presented with a funding breakdown of $25,579,087 from state sources, $14,264,758 from local sources and $44,300 from federal funds.
Board members discussed staffing and teacher-retention priorities before the vote. Finance staff noted that year-to-date expenditures were running slightly ahead of collected revenue because nearly $11.5 million in locally controlled funds were still expected to arrive before fiscal year end.
By voice vote the board adopted the budget; no roll-call vote was recorded in the discussion. The board approved the monthly bills list earlier in the meeting and then moved on to other agenda items. The budget adoption carries funding promises into the coming school year; the board and administration said they will monitor state budget actions that could alter final revenue figures.
