Staff said the core question about moving Santa’s Village is infrastructure: City Hall provides indoor shelter, restrooms and electrical outlets that reduce the amount of temporary infrastructure (tents, generators and portable restrooms) staff must bring. Staff noted the dwellings used for Santa’s Village are aging (about 20–30 years old) and moving them into a park setting requires significant logistics including vehicle access and placement clearances; staff estimated the earliest possible return would be December 2027 if site and vehicle logistics are workable.
Commissioners also discussed planning a September tour of regional facilities (heights aquatic center, skate parks and splash pads) and asked staff to circulate a poll to determine member availability and earlier departure times (5:30–6:00 p.m.) to see multiple sites in one trip. Staff said they would send links and suggested communities that have both skate parks and splash pads could be prioritized for a single trip.
Staff also said they will discuss the Santa’s Village site question with city council on July 13 and will present fuller Wildflower and park maintenance information to council on June 22.
