The Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Voter Registration met in a special session on May 22, 2026, adopted its agenda and announced that a certification meeting for the May 19 election will be held the same day at 5:30 PM at 2555 Lexington Road in Athens.
The director's report provided to the board described a pre-certification summary prepared pursuant to Rule 183-1-12-.12(f) to verify that the number of ballots cast in each precinct matches the number of unique voter identifications recorded at those locations. The report was presented as part of the board's routine certification procedures ahead of the formal certification meeting.
Board announcements also listed the timeline for a likely June 2026 runoff: absentee ballot applications are being accepted now through Friday, June 5. Voters who requested ongoing absentee delivery in May do not need to reapply; voters who voted in person or did not vote in May must submit an application by the June 5 deadline. Advance voting is scheduled Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12, and Election Day is set for Tuesday, June 16.
The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chair Lisa Riley at 3:27 PM. Member Willa Fambrough moved to adopt the agenda; Member Doug Yarn seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Member Doug Yarn later moved to adjourn; Secretary Ann Till seconded and that motion was also approved unanimously.
The board noted its next regularly scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, June 16 at 4:30 PM at 2555 Lexington Road. The special meeting concluded after the adjournment motion was approved.
