Carpinteria opens 30‑day comment period and schedules public meeting on Farm Project EIR

City staff informed the council that the city has retained Environmental Science Associates to prepare an environmental impact report (EIR) for the proposed Farm Project. The Notice of Preparation (NOP) will be posted and open for public and agency comments from June 11 through July 10, 2026, and a public meeting to receive verbal comments will be held Tuesday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the council chamber and via Zoom.
Staff (Nick) said the NOP period will solicit agency and public input on possible environmental impacts, suggested mitigation measures and project alternatives. The city will post the NOP materials and the project slides on the project page of the city website; staff will mail notices to nearby property owners, email interested parties and publicize the meeting via local channels.
Staff emphasized that the NOP stage solicits scope comments (what impacts should be studied) rather than approving any project permits; subsequent environmental review and site‑specific decisions will return to the council and relevant commissions.
Nick encouraged attendees to review the posted materials and to participate in the June 30 public meeting to raise concerns such as traffic, wildlife impacts and alternatives.
