County approves Protection Plus security contract and begins lobby screening plan

Commissioners approved a contract with Protection Plus Security Company and heard from Billy Engles, the firm’s operations director, about the temporary lobby screening setup and plans for a permanent buildout.
Engles said staff found the new state-of-the-art equipment sped entry screening because bags are X-rayed while people can walk through without removing personal items in most cases. "By the end of the week, it'll be a second nature to everybody coming in and out," Engles said.
County staff and courts will finalize procedures and signage. Commissioners noted input from the courts will shape final access rules for court operations and that guards will be asked to perform periodic exterior checks to ensure signage and equipment remain in place.
The board approved the contract after county counsel’s redlines and confirmed that pricing would be held for three years per the contract language. Commissioners instructed staff to complete signatures and return a copy of the executed contract for records.
What happens next: officials will complete the buildout and signage, install an internal desk and phones for communication, and monitor entry procedures with court staff and Protection Plus.
