Kilgorn Memorial Library asks York County for $17,500 to support maker space and programming

Holly Dugen, who began as the library’s director in late January, said circulation of both physical and electronic materials has increased across age groups and that the newly opened maker space — staffed part time — is frequently in use. Dugen said the library’s meeting-room capacity is limited after a wall collapsed in January, which has constrained programming, and that the library is pursuing accreditation (gold status) that could expand grant opportunities.
The library requested the same $17,500 contribution as in the prior year to continue purchasing electronic and print resources (including large-print materials), buy maker-space supplies and extend staff hours so the maker space can be open more often. Dugen described outreach ideas for an adjacent lot (pollinator gardens, pop-up events and a possible small amphitheater) but said no firm plans exist yet and that the library is coordinating with the city and library foundation on options.
Commissioners asked about partnering agencies and whether groups still bring clients to library programs; Dugen confirmed several community groups continue to use the library for programs. The budget decision will be made during the county’s formal budget process later this summer.
