The concept includes a straight-facing amphitheater aligned to the plaza, an open plaza area (middle trees removed for sightlines), a food‑truck pull-through to keep vendors off streets, a spray pad with associated pump and storage rooms, and nature-based play equipment.
Designers also added a concrete plaza surface intended to allow flexible seasonal uses (staff suggested a temporary winter ice-skating idea), picnic and game areas (ping-pong, cornhole), string lighting, and a low sign facing McCord Square. The board discussed removing the center tree line to open sightlines from the amphitheater to the building façade and adding food‑truck accommodations so vendors can load and unload without blocking Civic Drive.
Staff emphasized that the project is at the planning and design stage, that infrastructure work will precede many of the visible elements, and that the timeline remains medium‑ to long‑term despite grant funding for infrastructure phases. The board encouraged further detail on parking impacts and final layout adjustments.
