Larimer County unveils grants and schedule for new landfill and transfer station opening

Larimer County staff told commissioners on June 8 that the county's new north landfill and transfer station will open for commercial haulers and the public on Aug. 3, with preparatory operations occurring in July so staff and contractors can ready the site.
"We're planning openings for commercial haulers and members of the public on August 3rd," staff said, adding that July will be used to finalize operations and prepare the facility for commercial traffic.
Staff also described two items on the upcoming administrative matters consent agenda. The first is a $515,000 grant from the Colorado Energy Office that will support diversion projects, emissions‑reduction efforts and resilience work; the grant runs through July 2029 though staff expect to complete the work sooner. The second is a $6,000 temporary water and delivery agreement to supply dust suppression water at the north landfill during the next year while longer‑term water solutions are developed.
Staff said the opening will be accompanied by partner events and a limited invitation event for partners. Several consent‑agenda agreements from Solid Waste will be listed for board consideration at upcoming meetings.
