County staff say data‑center moratorium likely to be extended to allow more outreach

Larimer County staff told the Board of Commissioners on June 8 that the current moratorium on new data‑center applications will likely be extended to allow more public engagement and time for staff to vet policy options.
"We have a moratorium in place on new data center applications," Community Development Director Rebecca Everett said. "The moratorium currently expires in August and we are intending to request an extension to that moratorium to allow for more time to make sure we've had a thorough public process and really vetted policy options before draft code is prepared."
Everett said staff will present an update on June 22 that will include options for additional outreach and the timeline for drafting code for Planning Commission and subsequent board consideration. She noted the extension being contemplated could be about six months but said the county may not need the entire extension period depending on progress.
