District 208 adjusts solar design, schedules installation and approves payments

Facilities staff told the board that two code-driven design changes were required to comply with the 2024 International Building Code: removing 90 solar modules to meet tornado-load and snow-drift criteria, and adding mechanical attachments to meet stricter fastener depth and load requirements. The design reduction produced reported savings; the additional roofing mechanical attachments were quoted at $36,450.
The district’s solar vendor, Verde Solutions, will absorb pull-testing costs associated with fastener testing during installation. Administration said mobilization is scheduled for June 26 with installation beginning June 30, and outlined the contractor payment schedule: a 40% payment to cover panels and equipment, a 30% payment to be held until substantial completion, and a final payment at project close. Facilities staff said the overall net effect of the two changes is a savings to the district compared with the prior design.
Board members asked whether the additional fastener work is included in the initial payments; administration said the invoices are being reconciled through the project payment schedule and the final 10% holdback will reflect savings. The board approved the consent and contract items related to the project in the meeting packet.
