District 208 board approves tentative FY27 budget amid property-tax uncertainty

The Township High School District 208 Board of Education voted June 9 to approve a tentative budget for fiscal year 2027 so the district can legally spend in July while the administration continues to finalize revenue estimates.
Administration presented May 31 actuals and said expenditures are tracking near 99% of budgeted amounts for the year. The business office reported $848,469 in operating revenue for May and $2,452,927 in operating expenditures for the month, and said the district is "chasing about $1.6 million in revenue from property tax." Finance staff cautioned that whether the district ends FY27 with a small deficit or closes to a surplus depends on when state and local revenue are finalized.
Board members asked for where to find the key budget pages; administration pointed them to the summary of revenues and expenditures (the packet’s main pages). The board approved the tentative FY27 budget by roll call to permit July spending and to post the tentative document on the district website; administration said it will update the posted budget as closing figures become available and return with the final budget for approval this fall.
The board was also told that a material driver of the midyear swing in projections was higher-than-expected special-education actuals (tuition and transportation). The administration said it will continue to monitor revenue timing and update the board, and that the final budget hearing and adoption are planned for September after state revenue determinations.
