District reports MAP growth beyond goal; staff say STAR writing data still pending

Dr. Gomez emphasized that MAP measures are reading- and math-focused and do not include the STAR writing component, so MAP gains do not yet equate to final STAR proficiency measures. "This tool is reading only," she said, noting that STAR raw data remain incomplete and that staff will return with a cleaner STAR comparison at the next meeting.
Trustees praised teacher and coach-led professional learning and the instructional gains reported, while reminding the public that growth must translate into long-term achievement on state assessments before the district can claim systemwide proficiency improvements.
What's next: staff will provide updated STAR comparisons and a refined data package at the next board meeting; some STAR results will remain preliminary until state certification in August.
