Following several public comments about law‑breaking behavior downtown, the Kalispell City Council agreed on June 8 to hold a focused work session to review public‑safety responses and enforcement tools.
Councilors asked staff to assemble a comprehensive briefing that covers enforcement activity, the role of Kalispell Police Department and the judicial system, city code enforcement, public‑works impacts and any interagency coordination — including county and state partners where appropriate. Mayor Hunter and several councilors said the goal is to understand what the city is doing now and to identify actions council could take to support enforcement and public safety without pre‑empting judicial processes.
Council agreed to use the upcoming fifth‑Monday town‑hall slot for the work session so it can accommodate a public conversation. Staff said they would present existing tools and recent activity and that the council could identify follow‑up steps after the briefing.
