Board ratifies three-year teachers’ contract, approves administrative placements and service agreements

Stacy Williamson, the district human-resources representative, recommended that the board "ratify the collective bargaining agreement between Garden City Public Schools and the Garden City Education Association for the period of September 1st, 2026 through August 31st, 2029 as negotiated and tentatively agreed upon by the parties." The board approved the ratification by voice/roll-call procedures used at the meeting.
In other formal actions, the board approved administrative placements for the 2026–27 school year, welcoming Dr. Julie Kaminsky as the new Douglas principal and confirming principals and assistant principals across early-childhood, elementary, middle and high school campuses. The board also approved the annual renewal of the district’s food-service management contract with Southwestern Food Service Excellence LLC for the 2026–27 school year; the renewal will be forwarded to the Michigan Department of Education for final contract authorization.
The board authorized continuation of the Leavonia transition program (facilitated through Schoolcraft College/Leavonia) for students exiting the district’s certificate-of-completion program; the district provides transportation and will reimburse Leavonia $8,400 per student. School officials described the program as a long-standing option that extends educational programming to age 26.
Board members briefly recessed into a closed session for an administrative-association update and returned to open session before completing the votes. No final vote tallies were recorded in the public transcript for most items; motions were announced as carried by the presiding officer.
