Robert James, the district athletic director, briefed the board on spring sports results, participation and facilities at the June meeting.
Season highlights: James said the golf team won its invitational, finished well in conference and sent five players to state. Softball finished 14–9, and track and field saw a substantial number of personal records at recent meets. James highlighted junior Jeremiah Galloway, who broke the school’s all‑time triple‑jump record (announced as 47 feet 11.1 inches) and subsequently placed eighth at state, earning all‑state recognition.
Participation and staffing: James reported more than 479 roster entries compiled across middle and high school teams, representing approximately 274 unique athletes and many students playing multiple sports. He said the district still needed to fill roughly 43 coaching positions and that many coaches cover two or three sports. James described youth camps and camps designed to build participation, noting strong turnout in weight‑room and summer training sessions.
Facilities: James and other administrators described the new maple floor installed in the old gym following a flood and insurance claim; they said the floor will be heavily used for practices and community events.
What happens next: Athletic staff will continue hiring coaches to fill vacancies, run summer camps to grow youth participation and manage facility care for the new gym floor.
