San Juan County’s election office reported higher voter registration and turnout in the 2026 primary and outlined administrative details of the canvass and post‑election audit.
"There were 1,896 ballots issued to decline to state voters. Of those voters, 1,035 voted a Democratic ballot and 861 voted a Republican ballot," the election official, identified in the meeting as Miss Lissa, said. She reported that registered voters rose from 77,365 in 2022 to 84,863 in 2026 and said total ballots cast increased to about 18,190 (a roughly 21% turnout). The office recorded 6,823 early votes, 9,926 election‑day votes, and 1,269 accepted absentee ballots out of 1,278 delivered; nine absentee ballots were rejected.
Miss Lissa said the county will have precincts drawn by an independent auditor for the post‑voting systems check (audit) on June 15 and the office will have 14 days to report results to the auditor. She also reported write‑in tallies and same‑day registration counts and said no races required recounts because margins were wide.
The commission moved to accept the canvass report as presented and approved the action by voice vote.
