The La Grange Town Board on June 8 approved a resolution authorizing the town supervisor to execute a stipulation of settlement in litigation captioned Town of La Grange v. Mid-Hudson Construction Management, Index No. 2024-50648.
A staff member who summarized the matter told the board the settlement would resolve the town's portion of the pending suit and recommended approval, saying the town should avoid the additional legal costs associated with jury selection later this year. "We believe it to be in the best interest of the town considering all the factors," the staff member said, noting the settlement terms are attached to the resolution and that the board could enter executive session if it wished to discuss pending litigation further.
The resolution, read into the record at the special meeting, recited that the action is pending in the Dutchess County Supreme Court and that parties participated in mediation on April 22, 2026. It directs and empowers the Town Supervisor to execute the stipulation of settlement on behalf of the town and to sign any additional documents necessary to protect the town's interests, including stipulations relating to indemnification.
A council member moved to accept the resolution and another council member seconded. Two affirmative "Aye" responses were recorded and the presiding officer announced the resolution passed. Immediately afterward the board moved to adjourn; the motion, second and affirmative votes followed and the meeting ended.
The stipulation itself was annexed to the resolution and was available for review at the meeting; the record does not state the settlement amount or other financial terms. The board did not take the matter into executive session during the special meeting.
