Mayor Desai reviews school crossing-guard safety and microburst storm response in Parsippany-Troy Hills

Mayor Pucket Desai spent time with school crossing guards near Brooklyn Middle School and Parsippany Hills High School and told the council he observed speeding vehicles, drivers failing to come to a complete stop before turning right on red, and opportunities to improve signage and traffic controls to enhance student safety.
"I observed both the challenges that they face and the strong relationship that they have built with the students and families," Desai said, and added that recommendations from crossing guards will be reviewed as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety around schools.
Desai also summarized community response to a recent microburst storm that downed trees, blocked roads and caused power outages in several neighborhoods. He praised neighbors, first responders, police, fire districts, emergency management, public works and utility crews for recovery efforts and said JCP&L contacted the township to offer assistance.
The mayor announced plans to continue monthly town halls at rotating elementary school locations to improve resident access to township officials and to review crossing-guard feedback and potential traffic-control changes. No formal policy or ordinance changes were introduced at the June 9 meeting; the mayor said staff will review recommendations and pursue appropriate follow-up.
