After narrow primary loss, Summers County board discusses re-running levy in November

Board member Mrs. Harvey reopened discussion of a failed school levy that lost by a narrow margin in the May 11 primary and recommended placing the measure back on the ballot in November. She told colleagues the county commissioners had indicated the board might not have to pay an additional ballot fee and urged the central office to confirm the filing deadline with the county clerk.
Mrs. Harvey said the board received positive community feedback about the prior presentation and that organizers may have a volunteer to chair a campaign committee. Multiple board members expressed support for trying the levy again with the same proposal and communications plan; the board left the item on future agendas and asked staff to return with timeline and clerical requirements before a final decision.
The board did not take a binding vote to reauthorize the levy on June 9. Members noted the close margin (about 90 votes) and discussed using the same call with date changes if they proceed. The central office will report back on the clerk’s deadline and any ballot fees before the board decides to move forward.
