Parks & Recreation Director Adam Abraham told the commission April 2 that the city submitted a DNR Trust Fund application for pickleball courts at Festival Park and is awaiting administrative review.
Abraham said he spoke with DNR trust fund coordinators who confirmed early submissions are allowed to be conceptual and that staff can revise details — including the park location — before a final submission in the fall. He presented an updated concept drawing and discussed potential siting for a future comfort station behind the courts and options for sound‑proof paneling.
Abraham also noted an existing stormwater pipe will need to be removed and replaced to accommodate the court location, which could affect project layout and utilities. Commissioner Shaun Kelley asked whether there will be an additional public hearing; Abraham said the project will remain on the commission agenda through the final submission and must go to City Council before the final filing.
OHM Advisors will continue work on related park concepts and will present at the DDA meeting next Wednesday. No formal commission motion or vote was recorded on the DNR submission during this meeting.
