The Bayfield County Forestry and Parks Committee voted May 11 to forward a resolution asking the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors to request that the Wisconsin Counties Association urge the state Legislature to restore prior funding levels for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.
Administrator Jason Bodine said the 2026โ27 state budget does not include funding for the Stewardship Program, prompting the resolution. Committee discussion led to a unanimous vote to forward the resolution first to the county executive committee and then to the full county board for consideration.
The motion does not itself restore funding; it directs county leadership to seek broader county association support to press the state Legislature for reinstatement of prior funding levels.
