"Our secretaries discovered some termites in Evston High School," Mr. Dennis said. He described the recommended remedy as drilling and injecting chemical treatment along the building perimeter and conducting monitoring for two years to ensure eradication. The estimated cost given to the board was described as "just shy of $200,000." Mr. Dennis said the work could begin as early as July 1 and that staff would relocate office personnel during chemical treatment as needed.
Administration said it will first check whether insurance will cover the remediation; if not, the district intends to use major maintenance funds. The board discussed how the treatment would be performed and confirmed that there was no current evidence the infestation had spread beyond the office millwork area, though Mr. Dennis cautioned that termites can be "secretive" and may be present in other finish carpentry areas.
