Board hears budget uncertainty, considers salary-schedule changes and approves personnel report

District staff told the board the state budget was not finalized and it is unlikely full state figures will arrive before June 30, which could force the board to adopt an interim budget at that meeting.
Heidi summarized a draft state teacher salary schedule that, she said, would substantially raise beginning-teacher pay while offering smaller increases for longer-serving teachers; she said the package includes some one-time bonuses for certain groups and that the district is considering modest local-supplement adjustments to even out veteran pay. "We did an example that Dr. Maggie sent out last week and that's all this is is a recap of that," Heidi said, adding the district cannot finalize hourly-pay tables until it receives the state's final calculation.
Heidi also recommended a review of principal and central-office salary schedules so pay is clearer and more equitable across positions; she said the proposed schedule changes would not add positions and would keep some staff 'hold harmless' until raises catch up.
On action items, the board removed the personnel report from consent earlier in the meeting and later held a straight up-or-down vote. One board member recused themself with respect to an individual contract; despite expressions that some members preferred to delay, the personnel report passed. The chair said one item had been omitted from the personnel report earlier at staff request and that close-session follow-up would continue.
Board members asked for clarity about timing: supervisors noted an interim budget at the June 30 meeting could be needed and that a fuller budget resolution might come in September or October once state figures are available.
No binding salary changes were adopted at the meeting; staff were authorized to continue work on salary schedules and hourly-pay tables pending the state budget and additional board discussion.
