MADISON, Va. — The Madison County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a set of targeted definitional updates on June 3 intended to support pending amendments establishing R‑3 and a new R‑4 zoning district.
Planning & Zoning Administrator Allen Nicholls told the joint meeting that staff and the Planning Commission had focused on those definitions needed to implement the R‑3/R‑4 framework. Vice‑Chairman James Jewett thanked staff and the Planning Commission for their work and said “the resulting language would be beneficial moving forward.” The Board voted to approve ZOA‑06‑26‑01 without recorded opposition.
Staff said the changes are limited to selected Article 20 definitions necessary to align terminology with current planning and real‑estate practice; a broader ordinance‑wide definitional audit will be considered later.
