Madison County Board adopts three ordinance amendments, including meals tax update

The Madison County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved three ordinance amendments during its May 26, 2026 meeting, formalizing recent policy changes and aligning the County Code with existing practice.
The Board adopted Ordinance #2026-7 to amend Madison County Code § 24-163 to reflect a five percent food and beverage (meals) tax. County staff said the Board previously approved the rate increase during budget action, and the ordinance updates the Code to match that decision; the ordinance becomes effective July 1, 2026. The public hearing for the amendment produced no public comments and the motion to adopt carried on a unanimous vote.
The Board also approved Ordinance #2026-8 amending Madison County Code § 6-35 to correct the duplicate dog tag replacement fee to $2. County staff noted Animal Control had identified the discrepancy between the fee schedule and the ordinance language; no public comment was offered and the Board approved the amendment unanimously.
Finally, the Board approved Ordinance #2026-9 to amend Madison County Code § 2-153, increasing the limit on consecutive terms for Planning Commission members from two to three so the Code matches the Commission's bylaws. The change was presented as intended to retain experienced, active members while encouraging broader community participation; no public comments were received and the measure passed unanimously.
