The Town Council voted unanimously on June 10 to move its June 22 meeting to June 29, citing scheduling for swearing-in of new members and the desire to publicly acknowledge departing councilor Douglas. The change was proposed by a councilor who said the new date would allow the council to “properly say goodbye” to the departing member and accommodate the start of the fiscal year.
At the same meeting, the council set a public hearing for June 29 to consider a liquor-license renewal for 1st Track Investments LLC covering events at the Cumberland Fairgrounds for the 2026–2027 license period. Councilors confirmed the hearing date during the meeting and asked staff to obtain a signed lease with event dates before the hearing. "Can we get a signed lease with dates and all? The one we have now is a blank form," a councilor asked, requesting documents in advance of the hearing.
The date change and the hearing-setting were procedural actions; both motions were made, seconded and carried without recorded dissent. The chair also noted the council held an executive session earlier in the evening under the cited state statute to discuss a retail manager evaluation and potential land acquisition.
The council had also approved the minutes of its May 26 meeting earlier in the session; that motion carried with one abstention. The council adjourned at the end of the meeting and will next convene June 29, when the public hearing on the fairgrounds liquor license will be held and the council will make formal decisions on other scheduled items.
