Land use committee approves Kuster Township permit, OKs solar extensions and hears county land-plan outreach update

The Will County Land Use Committee approved a set of procedural and consent items Thursday, including a special-use permit for the Kuster Township highway department and first-extension requests for two commercial solar special-use permits.
Kuster Township received committee approval to expand its highway-department storage and equipment facility on a roughly five-acre site. Staff noted the property has housed township operations for decades and the permit will formalize existing uses and site improvements.
The committee also granted first-extension requests for two solar projects. Valyrian Solar's representative, Angela Faria, told the committee the project team has submitted building-permit materials and coordinated with the conservation district on a seed mix and erosion-control plan; she said a pending IDNR flood-plain review is delaying final permitting.
Staff also briefed the committee on the county's Land Resource Management Plan update and outreach. Consultants and staff have held steering-committee meetings, stakeholder sessions for township officials, and multiple open houses. The online survey window has been extended through the Fourth of July period to capture more input, and additional stakeholder outreach is planned for the summer and fall.
The meeting adjourned with the committee scheduling its next session for July 2, 2026.
