Van Buren County approves three-year contract and lease for county recycling center

Vice-Chairman House and Supervisor Meek voted May 26 to authorize a three-year Contract for Services and Lease of Business Property with Van Buren County Redemption & Recycle Center, LLC to operate the Citizens Convenience and Recycle Center, with the term set for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029.
The decision followed a continued discussion from the May 11 meeting. Caitlyn Vandenberg of Stockport told the board she is awaiting paperwork from the State of Iowa confirming the entity ID number for Van Buren County Redemption & Recycle Center, LLC. County Auditor Lisa Plecker said Vandenberg’s insurance agent had confirmed that, once the agent receives the premium payment, a certificate of liability insurance will be made effective July 1, 2026 and sent to the county. The board also reviewed a certificate of insurance submitted on behalf of Vandenberg’s proposed subcontractor, Next Gen Sanitation, LLC of Keosauqua.
Supervisor Meek made the motion to authorize the chairman to sign the contract; Vice-Chairman House seconded. The motion carried (Ayes: 2). The contract action was recorded as authorizing the chairman to sign the agreement; the minutes do not record further conditions beyond the insurance and state paperwork noted by the auditor.
With the vote, the county set a start date for the agreement contingent on the insurance effective date and the administrative steps reported during the meeting. The minutes record no dissenting votes or other amendments to the contract.
