City recorder outlines Cherry Days schedule; council assigned event duties and safety roles

City recorder Ryan Santoro gave the North Ogden City Council an overview of preparations for this year’s Cherry Days during the June 9 meeting, including an updated schedule, council assignments across events, and safety and logistics notes for fireworks and volunteer coordination.
Santoro said staff updated the public schedule after a morning meeting and corrected the previously listed race start time. He told the council the goal is to assign council members to major events so staff have clear points of contact. Santoro said Mayor Barker is assigned to the Sun Run, the Kiwanis breakfast and the parade; council members were assigned across the Luau, car show and other events to provide support and serve as official representatives when needed.
Council members raised practical questions about the responsibilities that come with representing the city at events, especially the fireworks display. A staff member identified as John said the most important role for the fireworks representative is to serve as the official city contact on-site and to make, in consultation with the fire marshal, any decision to cancel if wind or other safety conditions require it. Santoro also said staff will prepare a binder for council that compiles schedules, contact information and event logistics, and reminded council members to provide shirt sizes for event polos.
Santoro previewed event highlights: the Luau will include bingo and Hana entertainers, multiple food trucks will be on site, the ground marshall will recognize Robert Montgomery, a sunrise service will feature Gordon Robson and music from the North Ogden Community Band, and a market in the park will host vendors. He encouraged council members to check their assigned times and sign up for additional events where needed.
Council members and staff emphasized coordination and safety, and Santoro said staff will share the binder and final assignments closer to the event date.
