School board approves tentative contract language for teachers and support staff

The Hardee County School Board voted to approve proposed language changes to the master teacher contract and the education support professional (ESP) master contract during its Jan. 22 meeting. Dr. Sharp moved the motion and Miss Dasher seconded it; the board approved the item by voice vote.
Board members and district negotiators described the bargaining as collaborative. A negotiator and district representatives thanked each other for the process and for reaching tentative agreements. The board was told turnout and approval rates for the bargaining units: roughly 70.6% of eligible instructional staff voted, with about 97% of those voting in favor of the language; about 77% of eligible ESPs voted, with about 98% voting in favor. The meeting transcript contained a numeric transcription error (see audit) that the board’s presenters clarified during discussion.
Board members on the dais commended both sides’ work to reach an agreement they described as fair to employees and responsible for the district. No public comment was recorded on the item. The board moved on to subsequent agenda items after the voice vote.
