Cameron County approves website redesign, tower lease amendment and routine contracts; rejects faulty elevator bid

The Cameron County Commissioners approved a package of routine contracts and administrative motions at their meeting, moving forward with a website overhaul, a tower lease amendment and several procurement items while rejecting one improperly submitted bid.
The board approved a revised web services agreement for a redesigned county website and annual hosting at an initial cost of $11,500. Chief Clerk Nette said the new site will be more user-friendly, host videos, offer RSS/email notifications and include chatbot features to increase public access and transparency. “This will be the website that you expect to see when you go to a county website,” Nette said.
Commissioners also approved a first amendment to a lease with McKay Brothers to adjust equipment placement on Grove Tower and to accommodate a roughly five-foot increase in equipment height. The amendment was described as necessary to accommodate expanded space on the tower.
The Barefoot minor subdivision was approved as recommended by the Cameron County Planning Commission. The board retroactively approved a $2,500 purchase agreement with Election Systems & Software to provide local media-burn capability for voting machines and training intended to reduce prior delays in mail processing.
A $1,570.80 quote from Center Communications for DMR frequency programming for the sheriff’s department was approved; the programming is needed after statewide frequency updates and was charged to Act 13 funds.
The commissioners voted to reject a previously opened bid for an access elevator at the recreation center in the amount of $17,926 because the bid documents were incorrectly prepared. The project has been resubmitted for rebid to meet the county’s timeline.
When the board considered a request from ADAS to use opioid trust funds for wages toward a certified recovery specialist, one commissioner moved to table the request until auditors finish reconciling available funds and a pending appeal is resolved. The motion to table was approved.
